The top 3 of 2016…

It’s the time of year for looking back, taking a break and getting ready for what’s to come in 2017.

As part of my looking back I thought I’d share the top 3s from the website this year.

  • Top blog post
  • Most shared quote, and
  • My favourite read

Here goes…

Top blog…

I’ve looked at the most viewed, the most shared and the most read blog post which was published this year. Here it is:

This one and another on family contact for LAC children were the most popular blog posts of 2017 – as measured by page visits.

If we look at the most popular post of all time (well, since I started blogging in September 2013!) – it’s this one.

I’ve also had the privilege of training with a lot of foster carers this year.

Highlights were my old friends at TACT Cymru, the annual Cornwall foster carers’ conference and colleagues in Neath Port Talbot.

Most “shared” quote…

I haven’t done a huge number of quotes. But I’m trying to build them into the blog more often and also to post them on social media when I find juicy ones.

This quote got a lot of attention when I posted it on the Facebook page:

‘It is only with the heart that one can see rightly. What is essential is invisible to the eye.’ – Antoine de Saint-Xupery

I believe that when we meet troubled children and young people they understand something of how we feel about them – without us saying anything!

We are imbued with and “give off” our attitudes, and kids are very adept at picking up on them. This quote encapsulates something of this idea.

Favourite read…

I’ve published a few book reviews this year. There really are some fab books around!

But this one is my favourite from the last 12 months.

I gave it four stars out of five…

Here’s the short review:

“A must-read book for brain info junkies. Not for those looking for practical “how to” solutions. Technical and accessible. A definite for those working with troubled young people – or those parents who want more info on the inner-workings of the teen/s they love!”

Read the full review here. And if you prefer to listen rather than read, grab the audio book here.

THANKS!

My grateful thanks to everyone who’s been in touch this year. Thanks for your encouragement, your comments and enlightened criticisms – you’ve all helped to make my year memorable!

Here’s to a cracking 2017!
