If you work with young people, the issue of sex is never far away.
Are they practicing safe sex? Do they understand consent? These are key issues.

Great new FREE video series…

My teenage son spends more time on YouTube than he does pretty much anything else. TV, DVDs, box sets, etc? None of them commands his attention like YouTube.
Today’s young people expect to be able to watch stuff on-demand. Waiting isn’t an option. They want it now.
So imagine my delight when I discovered – thanks to my colleague, Lindsey Smart – a series of free videos on YouTube that addresses sexual consent.

Those of you who read this blog regularly will recall our announcement of a new video recently. It’s a simple cartoon line drawing that likens consent to making someone a cup of tea – it’s brilliant!

This is one of the best ways I’ve seen of communicating consent to teenagers.

Project consent…

Here’s a quick summary from the Project Consent website:
[callout]Project Consent is a non-profit, volunteer-based campaign that aims to combat and deconstruct rape culture by raising awareness of the harmful way with which it is regarded in society, educating our audience about the disparity of discussion of sexual assault, and promoting positive dialogue about the importance of consent. Our mission is to advocate for a future in which sexual abuse is not trivialized by the world around us. Through our work, we hope to inspire our followers to join our movement in the hope of ending rape culture once and for all. [/callout]
They have produced three mini, animated videos portraying simple consent scenarios.

Here they are:

Dancing…

Laughing…

Whistling…

Final word…

As with all resources, these videos won’t be ideal for all young people. But for some they’ll be perfect!
